Newborn Photography – Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire

A slightly different blog post from me today, I often get asked why newborn session’s are more expensive than an average photo session, and also why images can take up to 14 days for me to process and upload for my clients, so I thought I would do a small post just explaining some of the basics of what goes on.

An average newborn session with me starts at 10am, I have lots of parents arrive and even though I have prepared them for a session that may last up to 4 hours long lots of them are quite shocked especially when baby is happy to be wide awake and watching everything we are doing. So 4 hours long for a session isn’t actually that long in some cases, Babies love cuddles and have to feel safe and that’s my main concern when doing a newborn session so if it takes slightly longer then that’s fine, as long as baby is happy that’s all that matters. A newborn session is so much more than an average photo session in many ways, it’s a custom session especially for you and your baby, as every baby is different, believe me on that one as I see so many.

So we’ve completed a 4 hour session, if necessary, and you leave the studio happy with what we managed to capture, You then have that wait for me to email you with your proofing password, and believe me I know how hard that wait must be but there is so much I have to go through with your images before you receive them.  I have to go through all the images and pick out the ones I will process, while doing this I usually choose a few which I will upload to Facebook. I then have the task of processing each and every image chosen to my high standard, during this process I am faced with dry baby skin, flaky patches, and of course the lovely tones that newborn babies are. All take time and patience to correct, and of course I am always very wary not over do the editing process as I want the baby to look like the same baby. We also have the lovely composite shots, which take slightly longer to edit than the average image but are done for the safety of baby. So yes a newborn session takes longer than an average session from the very beginning right until the end when you receive your beautiful imagery, and I am sure any previous clients will say they are worth the extra money to an average session and of course the waiting time.

Here is an example of a composite shot, Firstly the straight out of camera images, You will see not only will I need to merge both images together to get rid of mums hands/arms but baby is also slightly jaundice and has red patches.

Then here is the edited image, merged and edited as all other images are. Hopefully baby’s tones are looking more even too.

Lot’s to do both during and after a newborn session,  making newborn photography a rather specialist form of photography.

My Love, My life 1/12 – Grimsby, Lincolnshire Photographer

This blog post is slightly different to usual, Instead of blogging my clients images for you to see I am blogging for myself. I have joined up with some other photographers and I am taking part in a little project just for me called My Love, My Life. This means once a month for the next year I am promising myself to take some time away from my hectic work life, and the business of our house to capture my children, as they are, To create memories for us all and most importantly to simply be there. This is a very personal thing for me and like my clients I want to preserve memories of my children as they grow, I want us to have memories together, things we can look back on when they are older and laugh about. All too often we get caught up in daily life and we forgot the important things by concentrating on what we think is important at the time, it’s not until we sit back and look we truly realise time is flying past us and we aren’t even noticing. It seems like only yesterday I found out I was going to become a mummy, and while that was a truly terrifying feeling it was also the most incredible thing to ever happen to me. To know think almost 9 years after having my daughter I now have my son too, I am very blessed but this doesn’t stop me wondering where the time has gone. My baby will be 5 in a few short months, how can this be?!

So this blog post is a vow to myself and my children, I will be around more, to not only enjoy the fun times but to capture you growing up too, I will update those old photo’s around the house, and most importantly I will take this time for us.

Please do hop on over to the next blog by Sarah Ferry to check out her beautiful images!!

First Birthday Cake Smash Photo session Offer – Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire

So I have a great offer available to anyone who had a newborn session with me at any point during 2013!!

I am offering all 2013 newborn sessions a wonderful 10% off a first birthday cake smash session with me, and not only that but I am also offering a lovely 10% off any prints/products purchased after your session,

Why you ask? Simply to just to say thank you!

So what is a cake smash session I hear you ask, Well its simply as it sounds, a wonderful session to celebrate your precious baby turning one, Such a wonderful milestone in your child’s way so what better way to document and remember this time that with beautiful images.

I can guarantee you when you give your baby that giant cupcake for the first time their reaction will be fantastic, We’ve had all sorts of reactions in the studio but they are all simply beautiful. I love to see the babies inquisitive expressions as they explore the giant cake, and lets be honest we can probably imagine what they are thinking right?!

I start every single cake smash session by taking beautiful portraits of your baby, and you too if you so wish, this not only gives your child time to warm up and become familiar with myself and the studio but it also guarantees you some gorgeous images. I use certain props to encourage your child too, which always helps especially the balloons.

Then once we are done its on to the cake smash…..the fun part!

Whether they eat it, smash it, sit in it or throw it about its always such good fun. While your baby is making the mess I am busy capturing some of those finer details, Cake covered fingers and toes and those messy faces. I’ve noticed they all react differently to the cake, Some take their time and enjoy each mouthful, Some just dive in and make as much mess as possible, which is just great, the messier the better and if you think your child won’t want to touch the cake, like many parents do, you would be surprised.

These sessions usually last around an hour depending on your baby, but its guaranteed that you will walk away from the session with some wonderful memories of your child turning one.

So whether you had a newborn session with me in 2013 or not and would like a cake smash session then drop me an email either via the contact form above or direct email

I am currently booking right into August/September for cake smashes so don’t leave it too long to secure your session.

Sherilee Francis - Hi
My name is sherilee and I specialize in 1st birthday outfits.
At the moment I have Facebook page a website that is slowly on the build.
And I sell on eBay etsy mainly UK and worldwide.

My Facebook page has nearly 3000 likes
My plan is to create a album on my page with numbers addresses of photographers based in and around the UK for people who want to organize a cake smash.
Many people contact me asking if I could do the shot myself ???? but this is not my profession.
I going to get at least two or 3 numbers of each town
For example Essex – Chelmsford
Kent – sidcup bromley bexleyheath and so on
I would then post your link to my page with telephone numbers and addresses and also on my webpage and in return if you could publish my page on your page
To tell people were to ther outfits.
I have amazing feedback and have built up a great reputation 🙂 I just would like to take it higher.
Please let me know what you think about this idea would be great to hear from you soon.
Kind regards Sherilee Francis x
