Newborn 1-2-1 Mentoring for Photographers

Want to create exquisite newborn portraiture?? Looking to learn the art of newborn posing??

I am very pleased to be able to offer my 1-2-1 newborn posing mentoring to other photographers wanting to train in the specialist field of newborn photography.

The days are focused on how to safely pose, soothe, calm, and keep newborn subjects happy and sleepy. In addition to discussing how to set up a newborn session using natural light or flash, you will be able to gain more experience and ask any questions you may have about starting and maintaining a successful photography business. All mentoring days take place in my home studio. During the day I will run through my newborn set up, my props and how I style each session. I will provide a newborn model for us and you will get the chance to take images for your portfolio as well as hands on posing of baby.

All skill levels are welcome, however participants will need to bring and be familiar with their own DSLR camera. You must be comfortable shooting in Manual mode and have a basic understanding of aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings. I also suggest a 50mm lens as that is what I use. (Although it is not required) I use Canon so if you are a Nikon owner please definitely know your camera!!

Please note that mentoring sessions are not available for those working or residing within 60 miles of postcode DN33 or to those with plans to teach their own newborn photography workshops/classes.

I booked in with Jodie for my newborn training when I was very first setting up as a newborn photographer – I’m a very nervous person and wanted to be sure I had as much help as I could get before diving into the deep end. I only had to do a handful of newborn shoots before I trained, during these sessions I was unbelievably nervous. I barely dared attempt to pose the babies at all, despite reading numerous books, online posts and watching countless videos on YouTube & Creative Live. None of these gave me the confidence I felt that I really needed. I didn’t feel confident enough to try anything but lying the baby on their back or side – despite, technically, already knowing what to do.
When me and Jodie were arranging my training session, we discussed what I wanted to work on the most – Jodie tailors all of her sessions to your specific needs. As I was already comfortable with my photography and editing, she knew it was purely the posing of the baby that I wanted to focus on. My session with Jodie was completely invaluable to me, despite usually being nervous I was so excited to meet her that day.
The gorgeous little girl we had on the day of my training session was actually very unsettled, but even having things not going perfectly to plan worked out fine. Learning how to deal with an unsettled baby was just as helpful as seeing how to pose her when she finally did drop off. The confidence and knowledge I gained from Jodie’s session was unbelievable, she gave me the reinforcement that I really needed and that I am constantly grateful for.
Not only was my 1-1 session incredible, but Jodie also provides on-going help in her own Facebook Group. It’s a lovely place to get any on-going help you may need and to get to know other photographers who have trained with her. I can’t thank Jodie enough for everything.

My session with Jodie ended up being on a Friday 13th but the whole day went really smoothly and Jodie had planned everything really well so was more a dream than a nightmare!. It was great to go back to the beginning and go through all I knew about photography and camera’s from a Newborn perspective.  We had fantastic models on the day of the workshop and i managed to get hands on experience, as well as some fantastic pictures and editing techniques that I could develop and build on. After the workshop Jodie’s support and interest in my business and development as a photographer has grown and she has helped support me during wobbles and congratulate me when I have really shown progress.
The Facebook Group is worth it’s weight in gold and I spend a lot of time chatting and discussing photography, business and props with the other photographers. I would truly recommend Jodie’s course; as a person she is humble and discreet and Jodie’s course can be tailored to you so she can really build you up, so you leave with lots of knowledge and direction in all aspects of your Newborn Business.

Jodie’s session has been invaluable to me and really gave me the extra confidence and information I needed to launch my business. She is an extremely likeable and approachable lady with whom you’ll feel relaxed asking even your ‘silly’ questions. Jodie is still providing on-going support and guidance – she genuinely loves to help and share her (vast) knowledge. Thank you Jodie

My mentoring day with Jodie was fab from start to finish! I saw and learnt so much. Jodie didn’t mind me asking questions all the time and always had an answer for me. I feel much more confident in photographing newborns now and her ongoing support is invaluable, thanks so much Jodie!

I was nervous about the session but was easily put at ease by Jodie and her friendly nature. Jodie didn’t mind how many questions I asked and was good at explaining how to set up each pose and helped when it came to reviewing the shots in camera to ensure exposure etc. Post mentoring session Jodie has continued to be supportive and encouraging which has been worth it’s weight in gold. Many thanks Jodie.
